Yankees and Cano Close to Deal
Looks like it'll be a 4 year, $30 million contract for 2B Robinson Cano. I really like Cano and I think this is a very smart move by the Yankees. He has great production for a his position and age, and really complements their line-up. The deal would lock up Cano for the best years of his career, so $7.5 million is a pretty fair sum, but it makes the recent contract offer to Ryan Howard from the Phillies look even worse. I know Cano plays for the big spending Yankees, but Howard plays in a relatively large market as well, and it just seems a little ridiculous to pay Cano and Howard the same amount of money when you compare the differences in their market value.
